How to choose exotic plants for your home

plants I have listed are tropical plants or originated in the tropics. Typically, they aren't hardy to colder climates, but can be grown outdoors in pots. Most of them will not do well when the outside night time temperatures dip below 50 degrees. If you want to take them outdoors for the summer months and put them on a deck or patio, it is wise to take them out during the day for a week or two and then bring them inside at night. Once they are acclimated to the outside temperatures, then you can leave them outside. Make sure that when you bring them outside to stay for the summer that your night time low temperatures are warm enough.

Angel trumpets and jasmine can be propagated from cuttings. Bromeliads and Elephant Ears will produce pups that grow either off the mother plant or away from it (as is the case with some varieties of Elephant Ears.) Root them either by placing them in a clear glass of water, or by putting them in a mix of potting soil that is mixed with peat moss and about 50% perlite. Powdered rooting hormone is usually available at gardening centers, and dipping a cutting into the rooting hormone often expedites the rooting process.

Having exotic flowering plants or green plants for your home can really brighten a place up. Plants are known to have a calming effect and to purify the air because they take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. With a little bit of planning and attention to the needs of different plants, it is easy to fill ones home or garden with all sorts of exotic plants and flowers and it doesn't have to be a costly venture.
