How to choose exotic plants for your home

but before a flower emerges, the main part of the plant will produce baby plants that grow off of the main part. These are referred to as pups. Once the main plant flowers, it will die, but the pups will continue to live and then they will also produce pups. So the cycle continues. A really fun thing to do is to cut the top off of a pineapple just like the ones you find in the grocery store. Remove about 1 inch worth of lower leaves and place the pineapple top in water. Refresh the water frequently. Before long, the top of the store bought pineapple will have roots, and you can plant it. Care for it as you would any other bromeliad.

Jasmine can be very easy to grow. Although not typically hardy to cold climates, it can be grown as a houseplant and then taken outside for the summer months. Most varieties of jasmine are easy to grow from seed. They grow pretty fast. Night blooming jasmine produces beautiful tiny star like flowers that are a yellowish green color. The flowers open and bloom at night, and the fragrance is only present at night. This variety of jasmine grows as a bush, so you will need to keep it pruned. You can root the cuttings by putting them in water.

One of my new found discoveries is one of my favorite exotic plants. That would be Desert Roses or Adenium Obessum, which is the botanical name. They are not hard to grow, provided you give them the proper conditions. I've started many varieties from seed. Some sprout more quickly than other varieties but you can always buy mature plants. Desert Roses are related to Plumerias, which are the flowers from which Hawaiian leis are made. Adeniums, like bromeliads have very shallow root systems, so it is especially important to ensure that the soil you grow them in is good draining soil. They require bright sun, but since they have such shallow root systems, they can survive for quite a while without any water.

Orchids are very exotic, but they can be temperamental and difficult to grow. They typically need a lot of light, but also need to be watered frequently. During the growing season that extends from May to roughly September, you will need to fertilize your orchid. Orchids are not tolerant at all of neglect, so unless you can water them every few days, mist them when you water them and fertilize them about every three weeks, this is not a suitable plant for your conditions.

A fun and somewhat exotic plant that isn't terribly difficult to grow is Euphorbia. My favorite varieties of Euphorbias are the
