Not everyone needs a wedding planner. Although I must admit that they are useful, people who work long hours or have children don't really have the time to be going round all the shops, looking up websites and going through brochures. But I think that doing all the planning for your wedding yourself would give you more of a personal feel to the big day. As well as being a bride-to-be, I'm also an event organiser so I know a lot more than some brides. I already know plenty of caterers, photographers, venues, dress shops, suit shops, florists, decoration suppliers, etc so I know where I can get the best deals. I think that if I didn't have the knowledge that I have of events, I would feel quite worried about planning my wedding but I would still be excited to be doing it all myself and with my husband-to-be. Wedding planners take all the stress of talking to caterers about food, florists about delivery times and places, venues about decorations, hotels with bookings and cancellations and everything else. Brides who get a wedding planner get the luxury of sitting back and knowing that their wedding day will be perfect. My only real concern with having a wedding planner is; do they know me well enough? Do they know me well enough to get me the right kind of venue for the ceremony and reception? Are they going to decoration the reception just how I want it? I know you go over all the details with the planner before the wedding but on the day of the wedding, I would be nervous that something hasn't been done how I wanted it. Am I going to turn up at the reception and everything is wrong? I'd much rather do it all myself, if you have a year to do all the planning then you have no problems. That gives you enough time to order dresses and be able to have them altered if needs be. You will be able to book the venue that you want as long as it's not too popular, some places are booking years in advance. Some shops and businesses will let you put down a deposit for any service they are giving you and then you can pay off the balance monthly. That way she spread the cost of the wedding and doesn't end up having to pay out large amounts that leave you penniless for the rest of the month. It also gives you time to look around for deals and go to plenty of wedding fairs for ideas. So I do think wedding planners are a good idea but I'd still rather do my wedding planning myself, for the personal touch and self satisfaction.
