With two new innovative super-phones out on the market for the holidays, it is critical to analyze the pros and cons of each technology. Of course, this season Apple's dutiful iPhone is facing competition against the new BlackBerry Storm.
Firstly, there are the similarities that must be provided to the consumer before there is any substantive differentiation between the two products. Both products feature multimedia abilities, including web browsers, GPS navigation, and e-mail capabilitie. Furthermore, each 3G phone is equipped with a touch screen for ease of use. Both can support games, pictures, sound and storage for songs. Each has Bluetooth capability.
The differences of the iPhone and Storm are the reasons why customers will go for either product; each has varying strengths and weaknesses. For starters, the Storm is only available for people connected with Verizon; likewise the iPhone is equipped only for AT&T carriers. The iPhone displays a 3.5-inch screen with 480 by 320 pixel resolution while the Storm carries a 3.2 inch 480 by 360-pixel screen; the Storm is heavier than the iPhone by .8 ounces.
Each phone represents years of technological innovation and work. The end products in both are highly functioning and modern chic, useful to those who purchase them. Though the Storm does not have Wi-Fi capability, it makes up for it with such a reliable network to fall back on. The Storm also has the advantage of a much higher screen resolution that truly shines when taking and receiving pictures.
On the other hand, the iPhone (and Apple in general) has better market saturation and has been available to customers for a longer period, thereby giving them the chance to experience and know the product better. The iPhone succeeds in providing innovative accessories to what should be a banal product and makes it very interesting to use.
Each has a sleek design, which compliments the high tech insides. The gadgetry of both products simply shouts out modernity in such a way that it makes science fiction look like a simple joke
Both products are highly efficient, though each has a significant drawback. The Storm has the tendency to be extremely slow when outside the provided network, causing mass irritation and impatience. The iPhone stubbornly exudes any pretense of long battery life and sucks up energy very quickly. Both can be bulky at times, but this is not of major concern.
Looking in the long term, it seems that the unstoppable Apple will continue to dominate the high tech market with its astonishing and easy-to-use products. It seems that every competitor against Apple can only take a small bite out of the market share, but perhaps the BlackBerry will provide some healthy competition for the next several years.
