The joy of being a stay-at-home mother

In my opinion, there is no bigger joy than being a stay at home mother. What is better than spending every waking hour (and usually the sleeping hours too!) with your children. Feeding them, cleaning up after them, playing with them, and then cleaning up after them again, wiping their noses when they are sniffily, changing nappies, wiping drool of little chins and milk off the floor. I ask you, what is better than that?

Ok seriously, being a stay at home mom is really hard work, but it is one of the most rewarding and joyous experiences you can ever have. Being a stay at home mom is not all house work and nappy changing, it is also fun and laughter and very special moments in every single day.

I speak from experience. I have been a stay at home mom for the past ten years. I stopped working just before having my first baby and am still at home and loving it after having baby number five.

Now don't get me wrong, a day in the life of a stay at home mom can be a very long and tiring one. Up early with early rising babies or toddlers, older children needing to get off to school with a belly full of breakfast and matching clothes and a back pack filled with everything they will need for the day. The day is filled with feeding, nappy changing, vacuuming, dusting, clothes washing, toy tidying, dish washing, homework helping, taxiing kids to and from after school activities, preparing dinner and then cleaning up again after dinner, preparing lunches, school notes and clothes for the following day and then finally mom gets to drag herself off to bed where she can hopefully stay undisturbed until the following morning.

It sounds monotonous doesn't it, well to some it is, but there are little snippets of time that make it all worth while. Your toddlers face scrunched up into yours as you wake up in the morning, the beautiful good morning cuddles, the kiss goodbye before they go off to school, the little one trying so hard to help you make the bed, the play time you get to share, the cuddles while you read a book together, sitting and sharing a funny story or joke together as you have lunch, the smiles on their faces when they greet you after a long day at school, sitting and watching as your little ones play in a world of their own, getting your hair brushed, baking cookies together, preparing the evening meal together and sitting around the table while you all enjoy dinner and then finally getting to snuggle before you tuck them in for the night. These moments are the joys of being a stay at home mother.
