Homosexuality is not a disease. It's not contagious and it didn't manifest itself during the Dark Ages. It has existed since the inception of man.
Homosexuality is a biologically encoded sexuality identity that compels one to be physically and emotionally attracted to another person of the same sex. It is as legitimate as heterosexuality. However, it isn't nearly as widely accepted. Moreover, homosexuals have suffered from gender related bigotry and prejudice throughout the history of mankind and continue to be ostracized even as this essay is being written. Today, it stills remains a source of misunderstanding and baseless derision well after many other long standing forms of atypical group biases have been put to rest.
Clearly, homosexuality is not a choice. What person would voluntarily take on all the horrible emotional baggage that comes with homosexuality? The unkind remarks and attitudes that homosexuals face every day are heartless and inexcusable. The idea that some type of so called cure is food for thought is asinine.
While there has never been, nor will there ever be any type of cure for homosexuality, there is however a treatment that warrants consideration. While homosexuals needn't feel any guilt nor shame over their biological wiring, those that harbor disdain for them and speak in terms of a cure can be treated.
What the horribly misinformed need to do is change their thinking and begin to accept homosexuals for the people they are, not for the people the cure oriented would want them to be. For reasons not presently known to man, homosexuals find people of the same sex desirable. In reality, it isn't anyone's business whether any homosexual is attracted to someone of the same sex or the opposite gender. Once they are consenting adults homosexuals should be guaranteed the right to display interests in any other similar adults past the age of consent. However, in a nation that trumpets itself as the leader of the free world, homosexuals are still second class citizens. State proposition after state proposition refuses to give them the right to enter into legal matrimonial unions. Religious zealots decry the idea saying it is sacrilegious. Aren't homosexuals the loving sons and daughters of whatever God one subscribes to? And who created them to be same sex driven? Who, other than God should sit in judgment of them? Isn't it his job?
A cure for homosexuality? I find the very thought repulsive and would encourage the homosexual to heterosexual hopefuls to work on the concept of acceptance. I suspect these beacons of pious light have much in their closets to keep them busy with their own digressions right up until the roll is called up yonder. In the final analysis a cure for homosexuality is the least of their concerns.
