Providing for a pet if you get deployed

Leaving your critter companion behind can be a very emotional situation for the both of you. Although you will see your buddy again, it is crucial you find the right temporary residence for your pet. Before being deployed make sure you spend an extra amount of time with your pet, show them you truly love them. Although your furry friend will not know you're leaving until you walk out the door, make sure it's known that you will come back for them.

Before leaving, think of your options of where you should be leaving your friend. Take into consideration of what will be more comfortable to your pet, maybe a kennel or maybe family member or friend. If you decide a kennel, make sure you inspect it thoroughly and consult with your veterinarian on choosing the most suitable place. If you choose to leave your buddy with a friend or family member it would be best to know if they currently have pets and if their pets are compatible with yours. Make sure your "pet sitter" is trustworthy, dependable and able to devote the same love and care that you show your pet. If there is special ways you show your companion love, pass that on to the temporary handler. Make a list of the food you give your pet, the amount, and what time they eat daily. You want your friend to feel as comfortable and routine as possible until you return. When you are deployed, it is a time for sad goodbye's, but when you return, you will be saluted with kisses and licks of joy. You are your pets true hero.
