World of Warcraft, commonly known online as WoW, is a Massive multiplayer online roleplaying game....commonly known as a MMORPG. What that means is that it is a role playing game where you get to interact and play with people across the world who are also playing the game.
WoW is a long and fairly complex game, and I will try and explain enough to you to enable you to get started as simply as possible.
Getting started on WoW is never a quick process, first you have to get through the installation.
So, you've got your WoW discs, and for the full game experience I recommend you picking up the Burning Crusade expansion pack if you don't already have it. Once you've installed the discs you have to set up your account, entering your basic details, and method of payment.
You have to pay to play this game. Obviously, as this game is online, and constantly changing is need constant work doing on it. That work needs to be payed for, and the price you pay for the discs isn't going to cut it. By direct debit the game costs 8.99 a month, but you can pay quarterly, six monthly, and annually, decreasing the cost of play slightly.
Fortunately you can also buy pre-pay cards for younger players, or those who are more careful with their card details. (though I have never heard of any problems with Blizzards security)
So, you're accounts set up, the games installed, you're ready to play, right?....
Wrong!
Now you have to endure hours and hours of updates being installed. This can be made an absolute nightmare if your computer isn't the fastest thing on earth. But just stick with it, it'll get there.
Three days later....
OK, so, you're ready to play. First thing first. You need to choose your server. This is where you will play. Obviously, all the millions of players can't play together, the system would crash, so this is how they split them up. There are a couple of things to think about when you select you server.
1 - If you want to play with friends who already have the game find out what server they are on. You won't be able to play with them otherwise
2- Is the server status recommended, med, or high. High means there are loads of players on it, and this can result in it being slow, and also has lot's of high level players, making it difficult for lower levels to buy goods from the auction house or to find other players to quest with.
3- Is the server Normal, PVP, RP, or RPPVP.
PVP is player versus player. In normal mode players can only attack each other unless they agree
