My Review: Daycare Nightmare: Mini Monsters

Rating: 4/5

Daycare Nightmare: Mini Monsters by Playfirst Games is another entry into the now classic point and click chore game made famous by Diner Dash. Instead of waiting tables for customers who act like monsters you are taking care of actual baby monsters, all of which have their own unique personalities. This is the second title in this series, the first one simply being Daycare Nightmare and Molly has returned as well as the new owner of the local monster day care center.

Game play consists of running from baby to baby and caring for their various needs, communicated by a dialogue bubble above their heads. Give them what they want and they're happy, don't and they'll give you a hard time. Graphically, it is difficult to say if this is an improvement over the original or a step back. Controlling Molly is easier this time, so if the graphics needed a tweak to make the controls more precise then I feel it is a fair trade. The music is standard generic game music. It would have been nice to have heard some music that better complimented the environments and maybe had some sort of ambient noises added in occasionally but the music as it is performs its function but that is all- no imagination.

The most time (and rightfully so) was taken on the creation of the babies. There is a baby blob, a baby vampire, a baby poltergeist, baby witch, etc. and all of these babies have their own quirks and temper tantrums. The baby blobs are the simplest to care for and are very patient. However the baby vampire will chomp you good if you don't care for his needs before he takes a flashing red temper tantrum, leaving Molly slow and drained of energy for a time. The baby poltergeist will make a scary face and scare the other babies and make them pee themselves, making them all need a diaper change. Upgrades that can be bought at the witch's store include faster shoes for Molly, quicker feedings, better diapers and equipment.

If you are a fan of this type of game and happen to think that baby monsters are cute, this is definitely the game for you. If you like Diner Dash and want a new environment, you will enjoy this game as well. However if you are not of fan of this style of game, there is nothing special that will change your mind. Daycare Nightmare: Mini Monsters worth checking out if for no other reason than to hear the baby vampire laugh. Even though I enjoyed this game I won't be buying it. I am not a big enough fan of the genre to pay $19.99 since I already have a copy of Diner Dash to take care of my point and click gaming needs and since the Internet is flooded by free trials of too many games that are too similar.
