The 05-06 season, all sports lovers will know that the Miami Heat won the NBA championship. They were great, but they had one fatal problem, age. Jason Williams, Antoine Walker, Alonzo Mourning, Gary Patron, and Michael Doleac were all in their final years and some are even retired now. That explains why they were bad the 06-07 seasons. Why are they still bad?
February 06 2008 was the date when everything went wrong for the heat. There had been speculation about the trade but when it happened it caught everyone off guard. Shawn Marion of the Phoenix suns was traded to the Miami Heat for Center Shaquille O'Neil. Even in his old age this center was dominate and the heat did not have anyone to replace him. Without a good center, you will always find yourself losing games in the NBA.
Now that we have identified the problem, we need to find a good solution. When you don't have a good player in an important position, there are two options. The NBA draft, or make a trade with another team.
With their most recent draft choice, the Heat acquired Forward Michael Beasley. This player is good and will be a valuable addition to there team, but he is not the position that the need.
There are not a lot of centers that wish to be traded or have expiring contracts. There is one named Ben Wallace who is an outstanding defensive player and would certainly help the Heat. When the year furthers and the trade decline approaches, the Miami Heat need to be on the lookout for any possible center that the could acquire
Another problem with the Miami Heat is their lack of scoring. Other than their best player Dwayne Wade they do not have a lot of options when it comes to scoring. When Shawn Marion gets healthy and Beasley gets more experience they will help but they will not be enough.
The draft is always a good place to look for scorers and if the Heat continues to be this bad they will have a high draft choice meaning a better player. Again as the trade deadline approaches there will be many options for the Miami Heat to pick up a proven scorer.
Overall, Miami Heat have a good organization with loyal fans that will stick with them through the tough times. They have the option of addressing their problems at the trade deadline or through the draft. Either way, their problems need to be addressed and soon beacuse they are only losing time with their best player Dwayne Wades contract expiring.
