The pavement was freckled
with rain.
The sky was sans stars
but it was just bright enough
to see
the freckles of the rain.
cigarettes glowed and
while we plugged our noses
the fire
was our lantern
as the sky
began to pour.
Who says God doesn't listen
when He makes moments
so beautiful and
perfect?
the rain began and ran down from the clouds
racing each other
and my heart wanted to play.
we waited with smiles
and hands stretched to catch it all
and carry it home
acoustic love
we got excited but we waited
until my shirt was dark
with the freckles
and my hair dripped to my eyes
we smoked life
the new lantern glowing.
at last your eyes in the rain
and our hands
and your smile
the moment
and God's wink
was all a little too much
to avoid
and we danced to the grass
and we kissed.
