14 Websites every pet owner should know about
Pets are members of our family and as such need all the same things we need. We travel with our pets, enter our pets in shows, talk about our pets, and most of all, we love our pets.
Pets can get diseases, have accidents, get fleas or ticks, have or develop behavior problems; and most need training when they are young.
Pets need veterinary care which can be very expensive. Pets can get old and need extra care. Pets can be handicapped. There are blind and deaf pets. Pets die and need burials just like we do. How do we care for these pets?
Here are 14 excellent websites to help you in every aspect of your relationship with your pet:

The Amazing Pet Directory is your one-stop shop for everything you need for your pet. You can shop by state; look for nationwide advertisers and online stores; purchase pet books, CDs, and DVDs; and find pet links.
Their site on advertisers and online stores offers everything from aquariums and supplies to pet food, health, and nutrition. You can find pet friendly hotels and vacations, breeders for cats and dogs, pet insurance, pet services and supplies, pet training, information on horses, pet portraits and photography, livestock, funeral services and cremations, pet services and supplies. Other services include grooming and boarding, pet shops/gifts/apparel, horses, pet training, pet behaviorists, pet fun activities and attractions, and pet art.

The ASPCA offers an excellent health insurance. They offer 5 plans: Safety Plan (Basic accident insurance); Primary Plan (Accident and illness); Advantage Plan (Accident, illness, and Wellness care); Premier Plan (Accident, illness and deluxe wellness); and the Sterling Plan (Help for long term care).
The Premier Plan is $51/month for cats and $59/month for dogs. The Safety Plan is $7.50/month for cats and $9.50/month for dogs. They describe full benefits, how to file, compare plans, and offer a free quote.
This is the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and offers many programs for caring for your precious pet. It is a worldwide organization and provides animal rescue in many different parts of the world - Canada, United States, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Southern Africa, Russia, Japan, China, Asia/Pacific, the European Union (United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, and Germany.
IFAW works to improve animal welfare, prevent animal cruelty and abuse, and protect wildlife.
They offer a weekly half-hour TV series called Dog Tales, an Emmy nominated TV series called Animal Rescue, and International Animal Action Awards. A recent award went to Ed Hogan, the owner of 15 Hands Horse Rescue Sanctuary and the St. Francis Rangers in Hidden Valley, California. Hogan's family foundation is devoted exclusively to the care and rehabilitation of wounded, abused and aging horses.
Another winner of this award was Steve Smith and Alayne Marker, the founders of Rolling Dog Ranch Animal Sanctuary, which is home to about 80 rescued and disabled animals - those that are least likely to be adopted such as blind and deaf dogs, blind horses, and blind cats.

Perfect Paws offers information about puppy training, dog behavior training, and solving dog behaviror problems. They offer dog and puppy training books and ebooks. They also offer links for puppy biting, free dog training videos, and articles on crate training, and house training.
The Pet Place is a good information site for every problem you might encounter with your pet . There is information on top breeds for families, obesity in dogs, and names for dogs. They offer a newsletter and a pet slideshow. There are also over 10,000 veterinarian approved articles on breeds, medication, products, symptoms, and health care.
They also offer a publication entitled Pet Crazy newsletter which includes pet crazy stories and photos. They offer pet slide shows and videos - mostly about dogs and cats.

The Humane Society of the United States has excellent information on foods and plants that are poisonous for pets. They also offer information on breeders and many other items that may be of interest to pet owners.
Pet Travel.com, a worldwide travel guide for pet owners offers pet passport forms, veterinary certificates, a search for pet friendly hotels in 150 countries around the world. There is information regarding pet passports, immigration, and quarantine. They also list rules and regulations for traveling by plane, train, yacht, ship, and car; links to other travel sites, traveling with service animals, and an immigration page for travel regulations to 130 countries.

This site contains links to information for dogs, cats, fish, and other pets. They have articles on petcare such as flea and tick control, virtual pets, and pet coupons.

The Best Friends Animal Society has information on adopting pets, homeless pets; and ncludes a pet care library for dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, horses, ferrets, exotics, and wildlife care.

T his is a site that offers chats and forums on holiday pets, chinchilla pets, pet kittens and puppies, baby pigs. Latest posts included Free Shitzu, Peta, Capachin Monkey Baby for Adoption, Pit Bull, Very adorable tiny teacup Yorkie for adoption, and Blue and Gold Macaw.

Here you can create a pet blog, profile, post pet journals, create your own group, join groups; and share photos, albums, videos, and stories about your pets. The site lists upcoming events. Here are some recent groups: No pet left behind travel group, My pet can't pay the mortgage group, and the Turtle moves.
This site lists pet shows. The latest listed was the Meadowlands Pet Expo. Here you could have your pets' picture taken for the Holidays. The show offered a Dog Arena, Dog Ring, Cat Ring,and Rainforest Reptiles. Each of these different shows included many pet events and attractions. The admission was $10 for adults, $5 for children 11 and under, and free for children 3 and under.
