Robert Pattinson A Star In The Night
Robert Pattinson, or Robert Thomas-Pattinson, is the biggest thing to hit teenage girls' bedroom walls since ... well ... Jude Law. And it's no surprise the young English actor is often compared to Law.
Pattinson first came to worldwide attention in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. He played the handsome, noble and doomed Cedric Diggory. He's no overnight success but his rise has been pretty stupendous.
Born in London in 1986 young Robert Pattinson was introduced to drama and acting by his mother who worked for a modelling agency. He found a role in an amateur version of Tess Of The D'urbervilles and achieved some little acclaim. This spurred him on to look for new acting and modelling opportunities. Following his dad into the car import business didn't seem to be as glamorous an option.
Television roles in Ring Of The Nibelungs and Vanity Fair followed, although his secenes in Fair were cut and only appear on the DVD version.
After his appearance in Goblet Of Fire, The Times online site voted Robert Pattinson Brittish Star Of Tomorrow. A big honour for a twenty year old!
Hackett's of London, the upmarket gentleman's outfitters had Robert Pattinson as the face of their Autumn 2007 collection.
But the role that catapulted Robert Pattinson to first rate international stardom, and made sure he looks down from countless bedroom walls and out from innumerable teenage dreams, was that of Edward Cullen in the latest vampire flick, Twilight.
In Twilight Robert Pattinson plays your average high school kid who just happens to be a 108 year old member of the undead. When new classmate Bella Swann falls for him Edward tries to do the right thing and discourage her. After all, what good could come of it and what would their love bites be like! But, love is strong and Edward finds himself having to defend Bella against others of his kind.
Twilight reportedly took $35.7 million dollars on it's opening day! And the reaction from admirers has been described as "fandemonium."
Pattinson was supposedly apprehensive about taking on the role, but the massive success of the film ought to have reassured him by now. And there are at least another three books in the series.
As for the future, well it seems Robert Pattinson has his eye on a superhero outfit for a proposed fourth X-Men film. He has also completed Little Ashes, in which he plays a young Salvador Dali, exploring a possible homosexual relationship with Garcia Lorca. Robert Pattinson admits this was a "tiny, tiny film" which his success in Twilight will hopefully give a huge boost.
Robert Pattinson is now on Rolling Stone magazine's Hot List. Where does he go from there. Well, anywhere he likes really, but millions of young Twilight fans will hope he keeps on biting necks for some time yet!
