Where to find free web hosting

by Joshua Zambrano

Created on: November 27, 2008

Locating a good, free website host can be very difficult. While you could presumably go to a directory of free websites, like www.free-webhosts.com, it really isn't necessary. Trap17 and Qupis, its sister site, are the only names you'll need to know for your website hosting needs.

Trap17 is a first-rate, professional site with a vast array of free hosting features, including 500 Megabytes of space, 10,000 Megabytes of Bandwidth, the latest versions of CPanel and Fantastico (web design tools), and much, much

more. The catch? You have to make quality posts on their forum to get, and keep your website.

However, for anyone who writes well - and if you're on this site, that shouldn't be a problem - this will cause little hindrance. The amount of posting required is very reasonable, and sites are commonly approved within a day or two. But most fascinatingly, once getting your site, you'll find it comes with NO ADS! That's right. No popups, no banners; you get a ton of site tools and website space just for some forum posting!

I have used Trap17 for my website hosting needs for years now, and have tried more than half a dozen other free hosts, including Bravenet, Geocities, and FreeServers. Trap17 is far and away the best I've ever seen, and it is difficult for me to envision how another free website service could be better. On top of all this, you can even get free domain names, although it requires a goodly amount of credits to earn one.

For those who don't want to go through the hassle of forum posting, or the risk of losing their site in the event of not posting (you have to drop below -30 credits for that to happen), Qupis is Xisto's entirely free version of Trap17. Qupis continues the more-than-reasonable policies of its counterpart, providing 150 Megabytes of site space, 5,000 Megabytes of Bandwidth, CPanel, and a variety of other features. On top of all this, there are no banners or popups required for Qupis, merely a single one-line text ad at the bottom of the site, an unintrusive cost for an incredible hosting service!

While I cannot vouch for Qupis, the technical support for Trap17 is as good as it gets. The forum community and helpdesk site (www.xistosupport.com is both friendly and active; a joy and a boon for new users. Xisto's entire network of sites appears very user-friendly, and even the fearful chore of recovering one's password has proven little obstacle for me during my experience with Xisto, due to their excellent and professional support team.

I give Xisto, whose site headline is "Honesty Rocks, Truth Rules!", high marks in all web hosting categories, and indeed, the highest marks. I strongly recommend them to anyone who has been frustrated by other, less passionate site hosting companies.
