even at the height of summer when the photo was taken was the snow visible. He gazed down the valley to where the river opened out into a huge frozen lake, with mountains and snow covered pines also in view. David knew that his journey was coming to an end. He had to carry Miikka into the landy because he was having so much fun in chasing pieces of litter that the wind caught and dragged into the air. After a further hour of driving the valley opened out rapidly leaving a huge frozen lake in its absence. Somewhere many miles yet was David's log cabin, a secret kept from everyone whom he knew, something he'd bought months ago when the idea of leaving all behind had first struck him. They continued down the lake until the point where the road turns from the lake side and into a forest, draped elegantly in snow. Ahead of them seemed to be just the lake shore but had it been summer they'd have seen a dirt track leading towards the bottom of the lake and a large log cabin, buried amongst spruces and pines. In trepidation David put the landy into low range and slowly eased it off the road and onto the snow, which to his surprise was knee deep in most places. The landy didn't take at all kindly to being made to do this, it choked and stalled as it slowly pushed its way through the snow. After half an hour of struggling forwards the track reaches the bottom of the lake and despite the track still being lost beneath the snow, it was clear to David where he was going, since ahead of him lay a dense body of trees that were bisected by a cut path, only about car width which snaked for half a mile up to the house. Because of the time of the year and the position of the mountains the sun was already gone from the sky and the mountains cast heavy black shadows over the woods, so much so he had to put on the roof mounted spotlights, of course the headlights were on but buried in the snow and thus useless. After another five minutes they turned a corner in the tree path and illuminated in the spotlights was a beautiful 2 storey log cabin, with a snow covered roof, bright red door and big windows overlooking the lake. When he had seen the photos the estate agent gave him his breath was taken away, but to see the real thing, he could barely believe it was real. The landy gently pulled up at the door and stopped. David reached back into the outside pocket of one of his cases and took out an envelope; inside it were a piece of paper with some names and phone numbers on the top
