Every responsible pet owner wants to be the best owner possible. We read books, go to training classes, talk to pet store employees and have the veterinarian on speed dial. One of the greatest information hot spots is the internet. And yet many pet owners are hesitant to search online because it can be confusing and hard to decipher where to find the best information.

This article take a look at 14 top websites covering a range of topics related to your favorite pets. Exploring them will introduce you to the different types of informational and entertaining sites available at your fingertips on the internet.

Social Media Pet Sites:

Youpet.com

You pet is a social networking site for pet owners, otherwise referred to as a "petworking" site. You create a profile for your pet(s) and connect with other pets owners locally or globally. Unlike many other petworking sites, you pet.com allows you to make a profile for any type of pet you own, as opposed to limiting you only to dogs or cats.

On the site you will find forums, chats, games, blogs, contests, videos, and a new pet health center. As well there is a section devoted solely to celebrities and their pets. It's a great site with lots of areas to explore, very easy to navigate and tons of fun to use.

Dogster.com and catster.com

Dogster.com and catster.com are sites that are devoted solely to your canine and feline companions. Once you have created a profile for your furry friend, you are able to search and/or browse the site for new pals for your pet. On your homepage you are able to see who has given your dog or cat virtual treats and affection or personal messages. Both sites have a lot of third party widgets and add-ons that make your pet's site highly customizable.

On these sites you will find breed specific information, blogs, forums, as well as local info on stores and services near you. Dogster.com and catster.com both offer various local or global groups for you to join as well as pets up for adoption in your area. A user review of Dogster claims, "I love Dogster! It's like a Myspace for your pet."

Petpop.com

Petpop.com, "where pets are popular". The name says it all. This site is a bright and colourful petworking site in which you create a profile for your pet and network with other pet owners worldwide. Petpop is full of interesting things to explore. Along with the basics of forums, chats and blogs, you can find pet sitting exchanges, dog park information, events and contests. Make your pet's profile the most
