Poetry: Praise

Why Not Give Praise?
I know you don't want me to think
You possess the qualities of a God.
Believe me, dear, I don't think it;
"Why" you think, I think so, I find quite odd.
I know you're not a knight, as in days of old.
"Why" you think, I think so, I don't know.
I don't remember stating those words;
And, believe me, my memory's not slow.
I know you're human, just like me -
Neither of us can claim perfection;
But, why not offer praise to the one
Who's the object of your affection?
Show them you love them, with compliments,
Say nice things to make them feel good.
I've been denied praise all of my life;
Why? I've never understood.
I see good in others, when others don't.
When I offer praise, it's not flattery.
The few times I've received it; Oh, my gosh!
It's certainly recharged my battery.
I know it's hard for some to give it,
Having been denied it when they young.
The value of praise can't be measured;
Up the ladder, it helps you up a rung.
In my conclusion about praise,
I offer these words of advice -
With your heart, give compliments, soon;
Do it, now, before you think twice.
