Product Review: EasiYo Real Yoghurt Maker

Guaranteed perfect yoghurt every time! I'm here to raise the flag and let everyone know how good plain yoghurt is. Yoghurt being "a milk fermented by bacteria to give a tangy or slightly sour flavor and a lightly set or thick and creamy consistency," according to Encarta dictionary. With this simplistic yoghurt making kit (non electrical), you too can start making your own yoghurt, without artificial colors or flavors, to have on hand and use in so many ways. Kept stored in your fridge, a container of newly made plain yoghurt, approx 35 oz. (1 kg.), will last you throughout the week ahead. It is claimed that one cup of plain yoghurt with naturally occurring acidophilus offers half our daily calcium needs, that being 25% more than milk offers.

* How easy is it to make your own with the EasiYo Real Yoghurt Maker? It's as simple as 1 - 2 - 3!

1. With the EasiYo Yoghurt Maker, rather like a plastic thermos, you partly fill it first with boiling water. (There is a removeable baffle inside that you sit the yoghurt container on.)

2. In the separate container, fill only halfway with cold water and whisk in the contents of the yoghurt sachet. This is another EasiYo product with three sachets to a pack. Top up to an indicated level with more cold water, place lid on and shake.

3. This yoghurt container now sits inside of the EasiYo Yoghurt Maker (with the boiling water in,) and the lid screwed down. Leave for 6 hours or overnight until set. Then it can go into the fridge.

It is SO easy and SO straightforward too. Why buy from the supermarket anymore? This is a cheaper alternative; always fresh is best and more nutritionally sound too.

Use plain yoghurt

* with cereal and fruit at breakfast

* in lieu of sour cream for jacket potatoes

* instead of milk and butter for creamy mashed potatoes

* stirred into a curry in the latter cooking stage

* for salad dressings

* in milk and fruit smoothies; iced coffee

* in cake and muffin mixes

* as a cleanser/toner too

The brochure with the EasiYo Real Yoghurt Maker suggests to avoid yoghurt curdling during extended cooking, adding either corn flour (arrowroot), or flour, will prevent this from occurring.

A favorite Banana Smoothie for anytime of day ... nutritious, tasty and filling. A meal in a minute!

Pour large glass of low-fat milk into blender

Add a whole banana

1-1/2 tablespoons honey

cup plain yoghurt

Blend together and pour into glass with a sprinkling of nutmeg on top.

You can substitute mixed berries; strawberries, pineapple pieces for the banana. You can freeze these fruits when in season and drop the frozen fruit pieces into the blender for a really cold smoothie for the hot weather months.

This is just a short-list of valuable ways you can use yoghurt you've made yourself. Yoghurt is reportedly beneficial to all age-groups from babies beginning their first foods through to the elderly. By having plain yoghurt in our diet regularly we're enabling digestive wellbeing, strong teeth and bones, and helping to control cholesterol and fat levels.
