Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can be improved through an implementation of a number of methods and techniques. This article will discuss and illustrate Search Engine Optimization in four sections. Google is a large company that owns and operates the popular Google search engine in addition to many other online tools such as Google Documents, Google Email or Gmail and Google websites. Google also has some free tools that can help webmasters and/or web developers improve Search Engine Optimization. Two of these tools are google analytics and google keyword tool. Google analytics can generate a SEO report which can be helpful in determining which pages of a website are visited most, and how to design webpages for more optimal traffic. Using googles SEO tools may be time consuming but could be worthwhile if one wants to generate a more search friendly website. Each tool has its own advantages and drawbacks and together they provide a significant way to not only better grasp and learn about SEO, but also tips and guidance on how to improve SEO. SECTION III: META TAGS AND SEO:
Meta tags are the items in programming code a search engine may read. Since source code is complicated to read, it is usually hidden but provides insight into how SEO works. For example, source code often includes the following <head>top of web page</head>, <title>title here</title> These are the tops of webpages and the title code and can be used in search engine rankings. Additionally, the code <meta name> may also be included in a webpage's source code to add optimization to a webpage's design. In such case the meta tag is descriptive.
Exactly which meta tags are searched by Search engines can vary from search engine to search engine are debated by SEO experts and webmasters in the know. However, if a webmaster wants to err on the side of caution, including all the potential meta tags a search engine may pick up may be useful in building and optimizing a website for optimal traffic.
SECTION IV: LOCAL SEARCH ENGINE RANKING AND WEBSITE TRAFFIC MARKETING:
Generally the larger a website, the better it will do in generating traffic by design. This is because larger sites with more content have a greater chance of showing up in a search due to volume of words and phrases within the website and on individual web pages. Two other methods of improving website traffic are 1) local search engine ranking registration and 2) plain old marketing the traditional style, word of mouth, email signatures, including website information on advertisements, flyers, brochures etc.
Local search engine ranking is an important method of SEO that places greater emphasis for searches with business registered locally than in other regions. In other words, by registering as a local business with a search engine such as Google, that business can gain an edge in searches that match the businesses website if that search is performed locally.
