The Siamese is one of the world's best-known and popular breeds of cats. They originate from Siam, which is now the country of Thailand, in the late 1800's. They reached the United States by early1900's, coming from England.
The Siamese are highly recognizable by their deep blue, almond-shaped eyes, a wedge-shaped head, and slender, tubular body with large pointed ears and a slender, thin whip like tail. Their body is muscular but delicate. Their legs are long and slender with small, oval feet. Their fine textured, glossy coat lies close to their body that requires little brushing. Their coat should be short, fine and silky to the touch. The majority of the Siamese's body is cream colored with different colored points on their face, ears, tail and legs. The most common and original point-colors are seal, chocolate, blue or lilac. They also come in Tortes and Tabby points, cinnamon, fawn, red, apricot and cream colored points. The female cats weigh between 5 and 6 pounds and the male cats average between 5 and 7 pounds. You will always know the Siamese by their brilliant, unique sapphire blue, almond shaped eyes, large-pointed ears and long legs.
They are indeed a truly one of a kind cat!
The Siamese have a very strong and intelligent personality. They are very talkative and communicate with their eloquent body language. They let you know when they are around! They are often referred to as an outgoing extrovert and can be extremely noisy. Their meow often sounds like a baby crying. They demand attention and to be part of the family. They want to be in you lap: on your bed or couch, at your table and best of all, in your heart! They do not want to be alone or ignored and, therefore, are always trying to be in the center of attention. In fact, the Siamese cat can be quite mischievous if bored or lonely.
A Siamese cat is not an ideal pet for someone who works all day because they do not like to be left alone. However, this can be remedied by having two Siamese cats! They are highly intelligent, full of energy and life. They need to be kept amused and loved. Toys and scratching posts should be provided for their play time. They are immensely loyal to their chosen owner and may not tolerate rival for their affection. Siamese are loving, playful, affectionate and meticulously clean. They wash themselves all the time. They are the most loved and loyal cats in the world!
