As a certified nutritionist, allow me to give you a few easy rules to follow to keep your food as healthy as possible.
1. Sanitation.
It has been documented that better sanitation is the number one reason for longer lifespans and better health in the modern world. After all, the average diet is certainly not healthier. But it is much more sanitary. So always cook ground meats thoroughly, wash vegetables and fruits, and eat and cook in a steam-cleaned environment for optimum health.
2. Natural is best.
If you can't find it in a forest, then it isn't completely healthy for you. By this, I mean that while you will run across fruits, vegetables, nuts, meats, and water in a forest, you won't find pizza, soda, or pound cake. These are foods that were once in a forest, but were changed, "processed", into unhealthy forms. For example, raw cocoa beans are one of the healthiest foods on the planet, but by the time you eat a milk chocolate bar, all of the health benefits are gone and it is actually detrimental to your health. So when choosing your meal plan, try to go with as much organic, antibiotic free, unprocessed, and hormone free food as possible.
3. Variety is the spice of life.
The human body needs an incredible variety of food to be in optimum health. From meat, to fruits, to berries, you need it all. Vary your diet as much as possible. Try to eat rare vegetables or even meats or animals you come across. And if you eat healthy you will not have to worry about your weight. Exercise and an active healthy lifestyle comes naturally to people who eat healthy.
4. Feed your soul as well as body.
Sometimes when people eat extremely healthy, they concentrate on carbs, proteins, salts, and fats. However, they will crave "sweet" foods on these diets and will falter. The reason is that sweet foods have flavors your brain associates with incredibly healthy foods. Think about it. Blueberry pie, cherry pie, chocolate, banana pudding, vanilla pudding, etc. All were once healthy berries, fruits, and vegetables, now turned into some sugar ridden death trap. So give your brain what it craves. Allow it to taste raspberries, releasing important neurotransmitters that make you feel better and actually make you healthier. Eat sweet berries and fruits thoughout the day. Some health "experts" say that you get sugars and calories from this. Well, trust me, in the long run its much better than caving in and pounding down that upside down pineapple cake.
5. Bacteria is back, baby!
