THE CHRISTMAS VAMPIRE

"Aw, Mom, why won't Dad let me help the other little vampires with the Halloween scaring?" said Little Count.

His mother finished combing back his black hair. They both looked into the mirror and saw his white shirt and black cape, black pants, and black shoes.

"Honey," said Mom, "Big Count says you're still too young to help. Besides, human children can be pretty scary on Halloween. They might scare you."

"But Mom, we only get to cross into the human world one night a year. If I don't go this year, I'll have to wait til next Halloween to go. My friends will talk about me for a whole year."

"You know what your father said," answered Mom. "You can meet him at the crossing point and help get things ready, but you won't be going to scare this year. He is afraid you might get lost, or get in the way. Remember, go to the corner and turn right on Halloween Street. Go to the end, and you'll see your father and the other little vampires there."

"Alright, Mom," said Little Count.

With that Little Count was out the door and running to the corner. He almost made it, but just as he got close to the corner, things started to go wrong. A loud WHOOSHH went just over Little Count's head. He turned to look, but he forgot to stop running. His feet got tangled, and he fell head over heels with his vampire cape flapping wildly.

"Aw, it's just a big screech owl," said Little Count out loud. He got back on his feet and started running again. Only, in all the excitement, he didn't turn right on Halloween Street, he turned left. He was running the wrong way. As he went, all he saw were pine trees on the side of the road.

"I think it's getting colder," he thought to himself. He pulled his cape tight and kept going. Suddenly, something cold and wet fell on his nose.

"Snowflakes," said Little Count. "I didn't know it snowed on Halloween!" He decided to go faster, so he did what little vampires in a hurry do. He turned into a bat and started to fly. Soon, his fur and wings were turning white with snow flakes.

He was beginning to worry, when he saw some tiny white lights in the distance.

"That's it," he thought. He flew faster yet. When he got closer, he saw tiny blinking lights decorating a house, and the trees in the yard. On the roof, he saw a strange man dressed in a red suit, and wearing a red cap. Little Count knew it wasn't his father, because the man's face was covered in a long white beard. Behind the man were eight large brown animals with antlers, tied to a sleigh.
