A Moral Learned, A Life Saved
"Eeeeeeee!" the whistle blew just as it had many times before at the county club pool.
"Slow down guys," bellowed Darren, who was stationed at the prestigious high-chair watch station. "There is no need for y'all to be running."
Terrapin Landing Country Club had many of the same features that all first-class country clubs did. An eighteen green golf course decorated the backdrop of the many houses within the neighborhood. The frequent attendees owned houses and various tracts of land throughout the neighbor hood. In addition to this, stood a state-of-the-art clubhouse; a place where members could socialize with fellow patrons, enjoy a delicious dinner, or attend numerous meetings and workshops that took place on a regular day's basis. However, distinguishing the country club of Terrapin Landing from the others was their elite aquatic facility they own and operate.
Phelps Memorial Aquatic Center has a design that allowed it to be used during the summer and winter alike. A retractable, fluorescent roof and an automated drying system established the center at Terrapin Landing as the best in the immediate area. Due to the capability of year-round use, people who have obtained the proper lifeguard certification are needed to protect the members during business hours. This event that took place at Terrapin Landing Country Club's Aquatic Center, when he was only eleven years old, shaped his personal morals and made him realize he had a calling to protect and save people at all available opportunities. Although many other activities could be done to assist in providing safety to people, Darren decided to obtain his lifeguard certification and become employed at the very location he witnessed a heroic act many years prior. Little did he know, on a hot and humid summer day the same situation that occurred in history would be presented to him.
June 12th began the way Darren had become accustomed to over the previous two summers; wake up to "One Week" by the Bare-Naked Ladies at 7:30 A.M, jump into the trendy red and white lifeguarding uniform that is required to work in, hurriedly throw one of his many tees
