Making easy money online has been a dream for many since the Internet revolution of the mid-to-late 1990s. With the creation of eBay.com, uBid.com, and web-based retail stores, starry-eyed startups have attempted to strike it rich through the Internet. A few succeeded; but most found it to be fraught with challenges. As with anything in life, sometimes it just takes being at the right place at the right time.

Virtually all "make money online" opportunities require some investment. For example, years ago I started a small eBay business selling electronic goods. The investment I had to make was surprising; not just computer equipment, but scales, cardboard boxes, and other shipping materials. And then there's the gas costs involved in driving around for supplies and to the post office, time in packaging the goods, and standing in line at the post office. Not exactly making money easily.

Online auction sites notwithstanding, the dream of making money online isn't dead just yet. In fact, a new contender has arisen that makes earning money easier than ever with no investment. The concept is called content revenue-sharing, where each member is awarded a chunk of the advertising pie for articles written into the site. Popular revenue-sharing sites include Helium.com, Associated Content.com and eHow.com.

In order to be successful on these sites, you must have a talent for writing and editing. You aren't writing personal blogs; there are serious articles that require new ideas and well-constructed arguments. But the more you write, the more you earn. It won't be very much at first; honestly, it's on the order of pennies per day. But once you get a couple hundred articles under your belt and learn how to effectively share your articles amongst a number of Web 2.0 sharing websites, you'll start seeing a bump in your earnings that can pay off a bill or two.

Always with articles such as these I like to warn people to avoid those "make fast and easy money on the Internet" scams. These sites make a lot of claims, tell you how simple it is, speak only in the most vague of terms, then ask you for money to get "in" with them. Don't fall for it. Bottom line: you should never pay into any site in order to make money online.

The dream of making money on the Internet is still alive, and will continue to live as long as there are bits and bytes flowing through our telephone lines. While it can be done with little or no financial investment, it still takes a major investment in your time and effort to make it work.
