You will need four things for your Parrot to adore you for the rest of his green feathered life.
1. Patience
2. Sincerity
3. Discernment
4. Love
Covet patience, because there will be times when you won't understand your Parrot's behavior. You won't understand why he gets excited and his eyes pin and his tail fans out and he lunges at you for no real reason that you could see. It will take patience, because you've just sparked into a bird's world and he is totally held captive inside your world.
It will take patience if your bird decides to give a lengthy screeching that makes your head spin and vibrate when you are trying to concentrate on a deadline or talk on the phone or he has decided to imitate your dog and bark for awhile. Believe me, there is hope for you just around the mountain to learn how to deal with the irrational behaviors they sometimes pick up along the way, and just as children pick up things, so do our pets. In the meantime, it is important for you to keep your cool and hang on for the ride.
Consider if your Parrot is a baby, if so; he will be missing his flock when you first bring him home and could be depressed for about a week. During this time is when you will need to give him a lot of cooing and talk. If he doesn't want to get on your finger right away, that is ok; just talk to him instead. Does he get on the stick for you? Be patient, because with loving coaching and a yummy treat when you say, "step up" he will eventually want to bond with you and will do as you please. Nutri-berries are the heart and soul of bird lovers. Your little fellow will be so glad to see you coming. Eating is a social thing, in the wild; everyone dines out together.
Parrots have a lot of insight and know when you are up and happy or down and blue. They will pick it all up from you. They will pick up your anger and your sorrow. They will know when you aren't feeling good and will "feel it" with you. Because you can't hoodwink a bird, it is important that everything you do with your bird come from a sincere heart. He will know if you are a false lover and someone who says he cares, but really doesn't. He will know when you don't want to spend time with him, feel irritated or anxious. Some even say Parrots are psychic. The main thing is to be sincere and not try to pull off a fast one, because they are usually two steps ahead of you. In fact, if they could talk and we know they do: they would say "whats up with that?"
There will be times when you will need some
