How to clean a stove top

For most of us the stove is one of the most commonly used appliances in our kitchens, which makes cooking a variety of dishes a lot faster and easier. Because of this however, it also requires regular cleaning, which is something that most people tend to find difficult to do. Fortunately enough however, there are several easy and fast ways to keep stoves clean that everyone can easily find the time for in their busy schedules.

The way that most people tend to clean their stoves is simply to spray them with cleaner, and then scrape off whatever gets left over after they have wiped the surface down. While this is effective to an extent, it can also tend to leave a lot of work on a regular basis. On top of this scraping every last burnt piece of food from the surface of the stove can often be hard work, and can scratch the surface of the stove over long periods of time.

What type of stove top you have can often make a lot of difference as to which cleaning method is the best one for you to use. Generally speaking the easiest to clean are electric stoves that have a flat glass surface to them. This is because glass tends to cool down faster than metal, and so less food will stick the surface after having burnt to a cinder. As well as this the flat surface leaves fewer contours to clean when compared to a stove that has the burners as separate pieces.

Gas stoves can in some ways also be easy to clean however, because of the fact that most of the parts will separate from the main unit of the stove. Because of this often an easy way to clean these types of stove is simply to take off all of the removable parts and to soak them overnight in some hot water with some stove cleaner mixed into it. The next morning the grease and burnt on food will either have fallen off completely of will be loose enough to fall away when you rinse the parts clean with cold water.

Often people tend to find that some of the hardest pieces of grime to remove from the surface of a stove are the crumbs and small pieces of food that fall between the gaps in the heated parts of the stove. These can then tend to collect at the bottom of the burners and underneath the guard, and even in some circumstances impair or block the gas line to the burners. Often the easiest way to remove these pieces is simply to remove the guard and then vacuum them all up. If any of them appear to be damp and sticky, then running the burners for a few minutes will usually dry them out and make vacuuming easier.
