How do you know when it's real love

by Valerie Daniels

Created on: November 24, 2008

I laugh at the youth who, where I once stood, stare into the doe eyes of their young lover and say "I know this is real, I can feel it". And I want to tell them the truth but then I realize that if someone had told me all that I know today about life, i would have been traumatized and never would have experienced all the beautiful moments I use now when my mate isn't quite as grand as he used to be. Seriously, let me tell you how you know when it's real love and, although this may not be the precious dream you hoped it would be, it's the truth. And pplease understand that I mean this completely as a realist, I'm not a pessimistic person by nature. Ok, maybe I learned a little from life, but I'm willing to believe that love can be realt atleast. With that said, real love is when you wake up next to your mate, who at one time had the hottest face, or sexiest body you'd ever seen and now has dragon breath. It actually smolders, crusties in the eyes, and you can smile and kiss. It's when you can love them ugly. It's when you know that they've done something so wrong it would seem to others unforgivable, yet you still forgive and continue to love them. It's when, through tragedy or age, their outward appearance doesn't even resmble the person you first met, and it doesn't even matter. Real love is hard love made easy. There are a million people or more that will tell you how much they adore their mate and couldn't picture one moment away from them. Whatever! I love my man but there are days when I want to scream and run. Why don't I? Because I really love him. This world has doused us with the syrup of sappiness and make believe love, the kind where the clock is striking midnight so you must hurry and drop your shoe but don't forget to leave where the man can see it. Whatever again! You do know how that story ends right, there's a mortgage payment on that castle and the chamber maids are gettiing a little too flirty with the man. Look, if you can survive love, than it's real, whether it's long term or not. You know you have felt it for real when you survive it. Which means it's going to ineviteably hurt at some point. It's the moment you face your worst nightmare in life and when you turn to see if anyone is there to hold you, he or she is, and they do. It's knowing that life will not always be kind and neither will we but theres still room for forgiveness in your heart, eventually. It's past the faults, through the trials, and beyond compare, if you have that, it's real and you should not ever let it go. If it's not that. Run!
