Dear Santa:
I am writing this letter to you on behalf of my six year old who has not yet learned to read and write well enough to write this personally. I know you don't care about all that grammar stuff and everything, but he wanted to get it just right for you. He wanted me to let you know he is a very special little boy. He may sometimes get a little rowdy and maybe have a tantrum or two, but he is very kind and sweet underneath. This has been a pretty hard year for him. He lost his papaw after a very long illness this past September. Last Christmas we celebrated for the first time without his mamaw who we lost in February of that year. Through all the hardships of life this little fella has been a rock in his own little way. He has tried to be such a big boy through it all. He often speaks of his mamaw and papaw and I know he still misses them so much. But to anyone who doesn't know him the way his mom does, you could never see all his sighs of longing for the grandparents who loved him very much. His mom has had a pretty rough time dealing with all the loss she has suffered and maybe has not had enough time to think about how much her six year old has had to endeavor. So. Santa, even though the budget is tight for everyone this year, I think this certain six year old deserves whatever his heart's content, within reason that is.
Sometimes as life passes us by so quickly we forget the important things that are right there under our noses. I think maybe I have done that a little too much this year. We all have our wish lists. My wish list this year shouldn't interfere too much with the budget. 'Cause you see Santa, this year my wish list consists of love, time, thankfulness and happiness. Loving the ones I still have close. Spending time with the ones I have so neglected this year. And last but not least, thanking God for the blessings I have had that I may have misplaced in my mind and being happy for all the blessings He has bestowed upon me.
So Mr. Santa Clause, can you please just try to remind everybody that it is not all about the things we can't afford this year, but about the things we can't afford to forget. Also, let us all not forget what Christmas is really about in the first place. It is not about what we can give our children or loved ones, even though we love to give them all we possibly can, but it is about a baby born so many years ago who gave us the joy of this occasion to begin with.
