Tamara pressed her ear up against her bedroom door listening for any signs of mom and dad. She had big plans when the coast was clear. She could hear the ticking of the grandfather clock near the bottom of the stairs. Chime, chime, it would chime12 times, and off she would go to a very important meeting!
Around 8 o'clock, mom and dad brought her up to her room to read to her. This was a special time for her. But this time it was very special. Both her parents were there. Her dad was in the service and wasn't always home. She didn't want the story to end but she found herself dozing off as Cinderella lost her slipper. She could feel her dad's hand in hers as she slipped off to dreamland. Suddenly, she was awaken by the wide-eyed owl perched on her windowsill.
Whoooooot', the owl bellowed. Tamara, wake up', he said in perfect English! She rose in her bed and put her finger to her lips.
Shhhhhhh, she said, someone will hear you'.
Okay then, lets get going. We don't want to be late for the meeting!'
What time is it?' she asked the owl. Did I miss the signal?'
I don't know', replied the owl, I have no place to wear a watch!'
She placed her ear against the door. Within a few minutes she got her sign.
Chime, chime.the signal came as she counted them one by one.
Ten, eleven, twelve, ..ready, set, go, and she slowly opened the door. I'm glad you woke me, I may not have heard the signal at all" as she turned to look at the owl but he was no longer perched on the windowsill. Tamara decided not to worry about it. He would find his way to the meeting another way.
Tamara could see her parent's bedroom door was closed. She tiptoed down the hall to the stairs. She took the stairs down and headed straight for her mom's office, near the back of the house. A good place for a meeting and to far for mom and dad to hear anything.' she figured. There was a big sliding door where she could let in all the people she invited.
As she entered her mom's office she could see one of the invited guests already sitting on the couch. Oh, thank you so much for coming, she said with the excitement. Thank you thank you! This means so much to me!
You are welcome Tamara, and thank you for inviting me'. This is important to me too! he stated proudly. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and we want it to be very special for you'.
I knew you would come, I just knew it'. But how did you get in? She questioned. There was no one down here to let you in?
He pointed to the man standing directly behind him. I'm sorry Tamara, it
