Poetry: Farewell to yesterday

Farewell To Yesterday

Say farewell to yesterday

And hello to the future

My broken heart is the debt to pay

That can't be fixed with a suture

You've learned how to move on

While I'm still stuck in the past

For you a new day will dawn

But my heart wants this one to last

I thought you said we'd be together

Until the end of time

I thought you said we'd be forever

I guess your words weren't worth a dime

How could you do this terrible task

One that would rip my heart in two

"How could you do that?" is all I ask

All that I ask of you

And when you can't provide an adequate reason

And when you trip over your own excuse

When you call upon your tongue: a treason

And put yourself in a noose

Just remember what you did to me

And how much pain I was in

Just think of that, maybe then you'll see

The reason for the way I've been

So say farewell to yesterday

And hello to the morrow

I wish it to take my pain away

And help my forget my sorrow
