Chocolate orange mousse cake is a creamy delicious dessert. Chocolate and orange complement each other and this recipe is definitely going to have everyone asking for more.

Cake

4 eggs (lightly beaten)

1+ 3/4 cup self raising flour 1 cup of powdered sugar

3/4 cup of butter or margarine
2 oz dark orange flavored chocolate (melted and cooled to room temperature)

1 tablespoon of cocoa powder

Mousse

2 eggs (separated)

3/4 cup of orange juice

1/4 cup of heavy cream

3 tablespoons of warm water

2 teaspoons of plain gelatin

4 tablespoons of powdered sugar

Cake

Grease a 9 inch baking pan and preheat oven at 350 degrees .

Place the butter and sugar in a bowl and cream well. Add the eggs one after another and beat with an electric mixer for a minute. Sift the cocoa powder and flour in another bowl and fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture and stir in an upward and downward direction. Stir the melted chocolate into the batter and mix thoroughly.

Pour the prepared batter into the greased baking pan and bake for 35-40 minutes. Remove the rich chocolate cake from the oven and cool to room temperature.

Mousse

In another bowl beat the egg yolks with the sugar using an electric mixer. Gradually whisk in the orange juice and beat gently.

In a small bowl place the 3 tablespoons warm water and sprinkle the gelatin on top. Stir the gelatin until dissolved and combine the gelatin with the egg mixture.

Whip the heavy cream until it holds shape and add it to the mousse mixture. Whip the egg whites in a clean bowl and beat for a minute on high speed. Fold the egg whites into the mousse mixture. Place the mousse in a cool place and stir occasionally.

Cut the cake horizontally and spread the mousse on top of the base and the top and sandwich the cake back together. Garnish the cake with dollops of whipped cream and refrigerate overnight.
