Staying motivated is what will get you to start exercise, continue exercise and keep on going until it becomes part of your lifestyle, like second nature. Wouldn't that be nice? No more dragging your feet to get to the gym, studio, mat, outdoors? You do it because it feels good and it starts your day right like a good cup of coffee.
So how do you stay motivated? Here are some tips you can use :
1. SET THE RIGHT GOALS. Make sure your goals are realistic. There is no point in having grandiose goals only to feel overwhelmed by it in the end. The best way to progress, from a psychological perspective is in small increments. It works better to set several small goals and achieving them. The success acts as your impetus to keep going and working harder.
2. MAKE IT FUN. This works especially if you are not one to like a routine. Add variation to your work out. Think about activities outside the gym, try wall climbing, rollerblading, martial arts, dance, try new classes and new sports. When something comes along, don't just brush it off and say "I won't like it", try it and keep yourself open to possibilities.
3. UP THE ANTE. Up the ante in your exercise routine, challenge yourself by going faster, stronger, harder. Of course, you still move up in small increments to keep the safety of your activities but once your body gets used to something and you know you are ready to move on to the next step. So don't stay where you are, the whole world is all about change and evolution, that includes your exercise routine and activities.
4. CHANGE IT UP. Focus on different things at different times. This is also a smart way to work out because you will be able to focus your energies more and cover your bases. So, one week focus on balance, the next week focus on strength, yet another week you can focus on flexibility, at other times speed, other times specific muscle groups. Surround yourself with positivity Decorate your bedroom, your bathroom, your house, your car, your bag, your computer and your mobile phone with things that inspire you images, music, quotes, books, etc. Get the gear, especially if you are into fashion. Keep up to date with the latest trends on magazines. Connect with various people doing the same class, sport or activity, in person or on the net. Surround yourself and immerse yourself in that which you are aiming for. Surround yourself in positivity.
5. ACCEPT THAT YOU'LL HAVE SOME BAD DAYS. Some days you will not want to exercise and you will need a rest. It
