served if we choose the most competent candidate, instead of voting for whoever meets our narrow interests.
-CLARITY & FORTHRIGHTNESS. Obama offers real policy choices. When asked, for example, which government-funded programs needed to be eliminated, Obama ranked which entitlements programs would be slashed, and explained why. By contrast, McCain refused to specify what programs would be "hatcheted." He claimed, "I know how to fix social security, that's easy," but never bothered to let us in on the secret.
-DIPLOMATIC CHARISMA. The world looks to America for new leadership, as it did during the Cold War. To deal with the financial and the threat of radical terrorism, Obama's intellect and charisma can mobilize the world's most influential decision-makers. Simply put, McCain's rigid thinking and rugged persona would have charmed few, if any, influential people on the global stage.
-INSPIRING NEW VOTERS, RELYING ON ORDINARY CITIZENS, LESS ON SPECIAL INTERESTS. By adapting techniques learned from his days as a community organizer, Obama conducted an entirely new type of political campaignfrom the bottom-upand stirred a whole new age group of previously apolitical voters. When large portions of the American population turn out to vote, that's when we are the healthiest as a democratic nation and as a people.
-FREEDOM FROM CORRUPTION. Unlike his predecessor, Obama's policies are far less likely to enfringe upon our natural rights to pursue happiness in our way unique and individual ways. The Bush administration's corruption dishonesty, and blatant hypocrisy continue to enrage me. Obama is not (knock on wood) that kind of politician.
