The dragon folds its wings alone
And lies its giant, armored body
On a pile of gold and gems and silver
That would glitter and sparkle and shine
If there were light, but there is none
The dragon lives alone in darkness
Bursts of flame from nose and mouth
Could illuminate the treasures
Make their beauty dance and come to life
In the lonely place where the dragon's breath
Could be seen if someone stood close
Not because of smoke from fire
But from cold held in the recesses of winter
Yet no one sees for no one comes close
Because the dragon never allowed any
To come near its underbelly
Which now feels no warmth
Not even from the fire within
Only the cold from the gold and gems and silver
Is felt against the dragons breast and belly
Reminding the dragon with a shiver
That it is still alive on top of its pile of treasure
That the dragon never breathes fire near
To make glitter and sparkle and shine
For no one wants to illuminate their mistakes
Even ones so dazzling and beautiful
As those the dragon can't bare to release
From the clutches of it claws
And the leathery flesh of its underbelly
