First I must say that I don't know the exact statistics on rape in the United States, but I do have stories of those who went through it including myself. A lot of people go with the myth that the victim asks for it. That it may be the way she dressed, or a seductive misunderstanding such as date rape.
What it boils down to is this, rape is an act of violence, and the degradation of women and men, and the children who have had the unfortunate experience happen to them. Some say that if you get the victim drunk or give them a Rufe, the current date rape drug it is the victims misfortune but nothing else should be done to stop the rapist.
The rapist is a predator, you may never know what they look like in the long run. As there is no way of walking out into the public, and being able to outright pick out those who will reoffend, or offend in the first place. It is a Power play on the behalf of the rapist. To him or her there is no limits to which they will go.
If you ask the question,"Is rape sex, or is it forced degradation and exploitation of women?" Rape is not a sexual act, it is an act designed for a predator to vent his need for power over his victim, to have total control of the grief and humiliation over his or her victim. Why am I reflecting on rape? Because every story I have read or met the victim has the same scenarios. The rapist tends to work in the area he or she lives in.
Often the victim has been stalked up to the event, or a random act because of poor impulse control. A person with low self esteem, a person who has to be in control at all times, feels more in control when going through the act of rape. Now that we know what a rapist is, I think about how many men, women and children have been exploited in this way.
The traumatic scars that a rape victim goes through lasts a life time. Some of my friends who have been molested at a young age, or raped feel so low in self esteem they go into the prostitution racket. Some are not able to have a decent relationship, with trust involved, and rarely are able to go into a long term relationship. Their lives get put on hold, so that they may one see that the offender is caught and remanded to prison. That their DNA be put on file should he or she ever offend again. You wonder why I say the offender may be male or female, I do this because, though males are more likely to have higher rates of sexual offense, and predator violent behavior, females are catching up in the violent act of rape.
Some victims
