With crimes are on the rise, even the best neighborhoods have become vulnerable. Many people are taking extreme measures in home security. Guard dogs are a popular choice among animal lovers when looking to add that extra security to their homes. While dogs may not fully replace the benefits that home security systems provide, guard dogs can not only help keep your home safe, but your family safe when you're out with the dog.

Dogs are very loyal animals, devoting their lives to their owners. Not only are they devoted to you but they will lay their lives on the line to protect you from an intruder. It's natural for dogs to protect their family and homes. However, some dogs are better suited to guard your home than others.

They are a very versatile dog that is easily trained. The Doberman is a fearless breed but not a vicious one. The Doberman is affectionate to their families and they want to be by their masters sides at all times.

3.) Bullmastiffs 100 to 133 pounds. The Bullmastiff is an extremely powerful dog and needs a firm owner. They are docile unless provoked. This breed is not known to attack, but they will knock an intruder down and hold them there. The Bullmastiff is a devoted alert guard dog with a sweet personality. The Bullmastiff is reserved with strangers and can become aggressive toward other animals. Proper socialization from an early age is necessary for this breed.

2.) Rottweiler's 85 to 130 pounds. The Rottweiler is a calm confident breed. This breed does
