Poetry: Missing someone

Regrets

Since you and I have been apart,

I can't seem to fill this hole in my heart.

I knew leaving would be hard to do,

Starting life over, with everything so new.

A chance many can only wish for,

A new life, broader horizons, an open door.

A chance I regret taking,

A decision I hated making.

This path lead me straight into a dead end.

The pain has grown, I can no longer pretend.

I am retracing the steps that I took,

Turning back the pages of the history book.

I have to return to the page where we met,

So I can turn the path away from regret.

I need to reverse the hands of time,

Until I am back to when you were mine.

I want to return to when I was loved,

On back to when I wasn't being shoved.

I want to live it all over again, only different,

This time I will mean what I say and say what I meant.

I can no longer stand the distance between you and me,

In your arms is where I yearn to be.

Nothing can stop my destined heart,

I can not stop until we're no longer apart.
