Why has Christmas lost its spirituality

Why has Christmas lost its spirituality?

With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season; it is no small wonder how anyone can manage to make it through Christmas with their spirituality unscathed.

There are no set "whys" or "how's" when you talk about something like this. I believe however; it all comes down to baser human nature; it is so much easier to worry about the "simple" things, getting the presents wrapped on time, how afford to buy John the newest gaming system- trying to keep a lid on your temper when Uncle Bob goes on his yearly holiday bender, that, being truly spiritual has fallen to the wayside; thought of as something you can come back to later, when things calm down. Human nature normally dictates finding the easiest way of doing anything; and losing a bit of spirituality here and there is pretty darn easy.

Why has Christmas lost its spirituality?

Because the people who celebrate it have allowed it to happen.

In an age of go, go, go; our sense of taking time, any time to reflect on the things that count finds itself an orphan to progress and forward movement. Slowly over the generations "things" and "thoughts of ourselves" have definitely replaced the fear of NOT being spiritual.

It could be that it started after so many years of hardship suffered by our forefathers and fore-mothers. When things finally started getting simpler; it was easier to take those things for granted. When a person can take life for granted, they leave a little bit of their own spiritual life behind.

It is an easy thing to do; losing ones spirituality, though the Holidays normally bring "good cheer" and the like- most times it is a false sense of well being.

Not to say all people deliberately allow this to happen, on the contrary; it is something most of us unwittingly do. How can one be bothered by thinking of spirituality when they're trying to find a way to buy presents for their kids or looking for a way to put food on the table? The Holidays are hard for many people; it can be a real tax just to survive, much less think of how to keep the spirit of a depressing (to those who can't afford it) holiday event alive.

We can all use the occasional spiritual booster shot; and it can be supplied by something as simple as taking a few minutes to really talk to your spouse, maybe even help Uncle Bob deal with those post war demons he has been trying to drown. Does Johnny really need that $500.00 gaming system? Maybe instead that money could go to fund a family vacation where you could all reconnect with the one gift that has no dollar value; your spirituality.

There are many factors of why a person loses their spirituality, far too many to list here. Maybe a good question to ask yourself is, "How can I get my spirituality back?"
