A Green Dream
Yesterday night -
I had a dream
an all green dream
I was standing amid
green - green field
lush green grass
swaying their tops
as the wind waved on.
I was standing still-
with my ankles dipped
in that deep green field
but I was numbed
from my waist to down
no feelings at all,
I was rooted in
with the heft of steel
no heat or cold
to sense air tone
I was squinting-
squinting hard
to trigger my vision
to figure the horizon
or to locate the end,
where the color paled
or diffused to blue
but it was an endless hue
of tiring green
then a sibilant hiss
startled me
I looked for the source-
over then down
and my numbness seized
I saw the thing
sleek and green
slithering up my knees
with its flicking tongue
and I felt the cold
spiraling up my soul
I saw the green
sprouting through my skin
I tried to scream
but no words, no sound
puffed out my throat
then I felt the shake
and heard my name
I opened my eyes
and saw your face
hanging over me
it was a bad green dream
I relieved myself
as you spoke and stroke -
but then I saw the split
under the blue night sheen
as your tongue glistened out
with each soothing sound
showing the slit
just middle of it.
