Eat healthy, live longer

Many people are in search for that elusive fountain of youth, hoping to find it in a pill or magic potion bottle. What they fail to see is that health starts on the inside, and longevity follows if you treat your body well and put the best things in that you can, and leave the harmful ones out.

With the development of science, humanity has been able to find all kinds of cures to prolong human life. However, this same fountain of knowledge has also led to experiments to create as much food as possible in an economic manner to feed the growing population that science has created. These foods however aren't necessarily the best as far as supporting this newfound human longevity.

How do you know which are healthy choices and what foods can help us live longer? The answer is based on common sense. There isn't one single factor alone that prolongs life, it's a combination of healthy choices; foods are no exception.

In general, the best foods are grown locally, instead of imported or trucked in from far away. Local foods will alleviate allergies, sensitivities, and other problems. If you already have allergies, obtain some local honey and use it daily - perhaps as sweetener in your tea. Many health food stores carry local honey; all you have to do is check the label where it's from.

Foods grown without pesticides and hormones are better for your body. While our systems grow used to processing the additives, eating foods grown in the most natural way possible is better. That way, our systems do not have to expend energy and instead can use it to fend off airborne illnesses and viruses.

In addition, people who already have chronic illnesses benefit from a more natural diet, so their bodies can focus on dealing with the symptoms better and maintain a more emotional balance. This all can lead to a longer life as well.

However, there are foods out there as well called "super foods" which are quite beneficial to a longer life, per Steven G. Pratt's book "Fourteen Foods that will Change your Life". Adding these to a balanced diet may create many benefits:

BEANS (substitute green beans or peas)

They help lower cholesterol, fight heart disease, relieve hypertension, and decrease the risk of cancer. The recommended amount is four half cup servings per week.

BLUEBERRIES (substitute raspberries, cranberries, strawberries, currants, purple grapes)

These berries lower the risks of heart disease and cancer. They are also beneficial for healthy, youthful skin. The recommended amount is one
