Changing your relationship with food can appear to be tough, mentally and physically. It is never easy to change habits instantly. but that is why patience is key. You can make anything happen if you just have time, will power and the support around you. Food is one of the main essentials in living a healthy life, therefore it is vital to have a good relationship with it.
For starters the main thing to do is get organized, if you don't have a plan and all of a sudden you get hungry, those potato chips just sitting in the vending machine are beginning to look a little too tempting. For that reason it is ideal to plan ahead, know what you are going to eat before you eat, and definitely know the contents of what you are putting down your mouth before its too late. The best way to start off, is by letting yourself know that you are not going to be able to change all of a sudden, so ease your way into a rhythm, or a specific eating pattern and limit yourself.
Discipline is the next step, if you stay focused, your goal is that much easier to achieve. A good way to stay positive is to have good self confidence, or at least let others be aware of your goals this way they can be supportive and give you a positive reinforcement. Remember a good relationship is strengthened by a positive way of thinking. If you need a reason to stay disciplined, one that works for everyone is their future. Just think to when you start eating healthier and than your body will thank you by giving you more energy, and giving you a stronger immune system with a longer lasting life. In this relationship with you and your food, your body plays a big role, just like in a lot of your past relationships.
One of the most important things to always remember is that you are the boss of this relationship. Don't let your food push you around, that burger and fries might be wanting to get in on your relationship, but you have to stay committed to your other relationship with healthy food. You wouldn't go cheating on your significant other, so why would you disrespect your relationship you have with your food? You are in control of this situation, you just have to know that, if your stomach starts growling because he misses those midnight snacks, you just got to growl back at it, maybe give it a cracker to shut up, but once he stops missing those midnight snacks, than that just becomes old news. Always keep in mind that it's never too late to start a new healthy relationship!
