I guess it depends what generation you come from to be able to pick your favorite songs. For example, people who grew up in the fifties might pick Rock Around The Clock, or Hound Dog, as their favorite songs. People who were growing up in the sixties might say I Want To Hold Your Hand, or I Cant Get No Satisfaction. I was not born until 1966. But, I have never been interested in or, even liked the music people from my age group were listening to back in the eighties.
While teenagers of today listen to rap,or heavy metal, these songs mean nothing to me. I don't understand why any highly intelligent human being, may consider these songs great. I consider them to be CRAP! How can anyone person call a song were you cant even hear or understand a word the singer is supposed to be signing music?
Music is meant to be a creative form or art. It is not meant to be used to promote hate, racism, war, or atheist views. Music is suppose to send a message of love, hope and peace through out all of the world. It is supposed to be shared between all age groups, races, and families.
As I have already stated in some of my previous articles I have stated that I am of huge fan of The Beatles. While they may be my favorite rock and roll band, I also like several other rock and roll bands from that era in music. While a lot of people who are from My Generation, (SOUND FAMILIAR?) might consider boring and out of date, I call this real music.
Some of the songs that I consider the best rock and roll songs of all time are, Yesterday, by The Beatles, God Only Knows, by The Beach Boys, The Times They Are A -Changin, by Bob Dylan. And many others, my list is endless. To me, the music of the baby boom generation stood for love, peace, and understanding while, the United States was being torn apart by an unpopular, and controversial war, assassinations, and riots. These songs brought hope and inspiration to a troubled and weary generation.
Other songs from my endless list are People Got To Be Free, by The Rascals, Abraham, Martin, And John, by Dion, All You Need Is Love, and Let It Be, by The Beatles. Also on my list are Bridge Over Troubled Water, and The Boxer, by Simon And Garfunkel. These songs were not only beautiful and inspirational, they were also written not only to The Untied States, but and entire world. To help heal the wounds from the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy. The Kent State Massacre in 1970.
These songs were writing and meant to stand for a better and more peaceful world, and to spread a message of love not hate.
