Steeped in culture and tradition. Home to between 12 and 14 million people, a vibrant weave of color and imagination. Home to some of the best shopping districts in the world, some of the most famous theaters in the world, and home of the quintessential English gentleman. It is also therefore the central point of the more discerning tastes. London can trace its history back to the Roman invasion of Britain in 43 AD, and is now by far the most visited city in the world over 15.8 million people visit London every year. If you are one of these people, whether its a vacation or a business trip, we've made navigation easy for you.
London is a huge sprawling metropolis, and getting around can be daunting. A standard web search can throw up thousands of places to see, to eat and to stay. The hard work, however, has already been done we've discovered the best streets to party, to shop, to sight-see. All information comes from the people in the know (the people who actually live there), and will help you to get the best out of your visit. We've researched some of the most productive shopping, party and relaxing streets in the
city:
Oxford Street-
Oxford Street is a 1.5-mile strip of shops, aimed mostly at the tourist trade. It is by far the busiest shopping street in Europe with over 300 shops.
The tube station-
Tottenham Court Road stands at one end, and Marble Arch tube at the other. The shops are mostly cut-price, like Selfridges, TopShop and River Island. Selfridges selfridges.com is the second largest department store in the UK and they offer a free personal shopping service.
Oxford Street can get incredibly busy and congested, but it's actually rather enjoyable watching the crowds, and the majority of the shops and bars are large enough to accommodate even the busiest of days. Marks and Spencers marksandspencers.com a British institution has its flagship at the Marble Arch end of Oxford St, and is worth a visit because they often trial new lines here that can not be found anywhere else they are only sent nationwide if they prove to be popular!
Hotels with easy access include the Park Lane Marriott, and The Radisson Mayfair Hotel radissonedwardian.com/mayfair or Sanderson Hotel SandersonLondon.com. Oxford Street has literally dozens of places to eat and drink, but for the more discerning palette, try the restaurant in The Radisson Edwardian Hotel, called Ascot's. It's a real treat to dine, relax and watch the shoppers rushing past!
Soho Street-
Leading directly off Oxford
