"Sing me, Mommy." I hear my son say,
as he lays his head down, tired from play.
I look at his eyes, flying half mast,
at the boy I love, the baby that's past.
He smiles so softly, saying "monkeybird, please."
That my heart just melts, and his body I squeeze.
So starts my song, a song from my heart.
An age old lullaby, it now holds a part,
of making his dreams pleasant and sweet,
of helping him see the proverbial sheep.
"Hush little baby, don't say a word,
Mommy's gonna buy you a mockingbird..."
I feel his smile as I stroke his cheek,
reassured that tonight his dreams are sweet.
