Reflections: Creativity
When I think of what creativity has done for me, I am grateful for the concept. I believe we all have creativity, we just have to learn to develop it to obtain what we want out of life. We are capable of doing a lot more than we can even imagine if we just put our minds to it.
First, it's like the old story "the little engine that could" and others.
If we think we can do something, we can do it. Believe you can make something happen, and it will happen. With first thinking and planning any project, it can be accomplished. Put your mind to it and it will happen.
My own hopes and dreams have come home many time by being creative. I'm not sure where my creativity comes from but I give the credit for my successes to a higher power. It couldn't have happened on my own.
For instance, I have always wanted to have my needle craft projects published in national magazines. I have always admired others work, and wished it could happen to me, that a picture of my projects would appear for others to use and to see my name printed under the project. I wanted it so badly, that one day I created a doily without the use of anyone else's pattern. I created my own original design without looking at a single idea that someone else dreamed up and designed. I surprised myself that I could really do this myself, and I liked that first design so much I decided to take a picture of it, write down my instructions and sent it to a craft magazine. It turned out to be good enough an editor called me and offered to publish it. My first attempt at designing came out in the next month's issue. I had no idea where the idea came from but after that first attempt, My ego turned loose and I told myself if I could do it once, I could do it over and over.
Ten years passed and I succeeded in creating many designs of which most were accepted for publication in many needlecraft magazines. I never borrowed ideas from others, my crafts were all origianl and they provided a nice income in my retiring years.
I proved my theory again later in life when I decided to write my memoirs for my family. I had never written much before in my life, but I started writing, and as I wrote, I learned how to write, and the more I wrote the more I remembered of my childhood. I wanted so badly to do it, I worked hard at it, and in 2003 my book of childhood memoirs came out in paperback. Three years later my second book was published when I was 86 years old.
If you have a good idea, think about it carefully, and don't be afraid to try creating something. If it doesn't turn out well the first time, keep trying different ways to do it, and eventually if you want it to happen badly enough, it will happen. Creativitiy is a wonderful tool that anyone can captivate and become successful if they put their mind to it, and believe it can be done.
