Christmas without Christ is, well Christmas. It has been proved that Jesus Christ was not born on December 25th. When was He truly born? I do not know. One thing is for sure, He was born.
Christmas as we know it today has become so secular and commercialized that I believe Jesus would call it a pagan holiday. Even Christians themselves are forgetting the reason for the season.
It's all about how many Christmas cards we can send to our friends in expectation of getting a response. It's all abut who can get the biggest, brightest, tallest tree. Who has the most lights and decorations in their house or yard. How many different parties can I go to. How many gifts will I receive.
Christmas has become all about me, me, me. If this is the only day of the year that we can celebrate Christ, then something is wrong. This is one of the only two days of the year that many will even acknowledge Christ.
We have got so caught up in the commercial side of Christmas that it may never become a "holy" day again. There are many things that we have just let go to the waste side. Why should we try to keep Christmas holy when we do not keep our own life holy unto Him?
Of course the corporate world has done so much on advertising that we cannot escape its threat. Buy this now. Get this for your spouse. This is your only chance. And because we want to impress our friends and family, we fall victim to their ads.
We're lured into the stores. We are attracted to bright signs advertising a sale. Credit card debt usually hits its highest at this time of year. They say Christmas colors are green and red because we spend so much green that it leaves us in the red.
Greed has taken over the spirit of Christmas. The advertiser are greedy for money and the people are greedy in what they give and what they want to receive.
If Christmas was returned to a "holy" day, I'm not sure how the Christian would react. They have grown so accustom to this world that they would be in shock if Jesus were a part of their holiday celebration.
Will Christians ever regain Christmas as a holy day? I think not. It will remain a "holey" day because their pockets and their spirits will both have holes in them. They will continue to make the advertisers rich. Their Christmas spirit will not exist on December 26th. Christ has gone out the window.
Christmas in America has surely lost its touch with the Christian people.
