Poetry: The seasons of our lives

by Chris Thelen

It's the autumn of my life

the warmth of summer has faded

There's a chill in the air

Cold, damp, overcast days

Replace sunny, bright days

Life once seemed endless

Storm clouds were far away

Now autumn has settled in

I see and feel the years in my body

The wrinkles and aching joints

What could be is no more

The hands of time pass over

A colorful past paints the landscape

Vivid memories of spring and summer

Youth and dreams fall like leaves

The chilly air stings with each breath

My body tries to fight it

I know it's a matter of time

The leaves continue to fall

As my life passes into winter

I know I will stand barren like a tree

Before my God and my Creator

I pray I will be worthy

To be blanketed in a covering

Of pure, white snow
