The skin on the palms and the soles of the feet is 4 mm thick and the thickest skin in the body. The heel portions of the feet being the thickest portions. Read on and find out more about the thinnest and the thickest skin in the body.

THE THINNEST SKIN IN THE BODY

The skin under the eyes and the areas around the eyelids being the thinnest skin in the body is the first area to show signs of aging, "crows feet" and wrinkles.

WHY?

The epidermis or outer most layer of the skin under the eyes and around the eye areas has fewer oil glands, this results in early drying and wrinkling of these skin areas.

Weakening of the muscles in any part of the body will result in wrinkles and so it is with the skin around the eyes. There is less elastin (a protein in connective tissue that is elastic like) in these skin areas. Elastin allows body tissue to resume its shape after it is stretched. Sagging occurs early in these thin areas because they have less elastin.

As one ages there is loss of collagen (a connective tissue protein) in the eye areas making the skin thinner, weaker and causes it to sag.

As you age there is usually loss of fatty tissue in the eye areas which also causes sagging.

The above four conditions create what is called Peri-orbital Hyper-pigmentation or dark shadows under the skin area of the eyess, signs of wrinkles and aging.

HOW CAN YOU PROTECT THE THINNEST AREA OF THE SKIN IN YOUR BODY?

To protect this area of the body:

Use protective eye cream on a daily basis.

Protect the skin area from the damaging ultra violet light of the sun.

Avoid ultra violet light which is the worst culprit in the aging process of the skin areas around the eyes.

THERMO LIFT: A NEW PROCEDURE TO IMPROVE THE APPEARANCE OF THE EYE AREA.

Thermo-Lift is a new non-surgical procedure. This is an approach to uplifting the eye area to reduces wrinkles, sagging and prevents puffiness around the eyes. The key to getting the best results with this procedure is to have this procedure early. The procedure should be done before the eye areas start sagging and show deep wrinkles. Thermo-Lift is a safe non-invasive procedure. It is non-surgical procedure. Topical anesthesia is used and the procedure takes approximately an hour. After the procedure the patient can immediately return to a normal routine.
