Formal hairstyles for women with short hair

or there's not enough hair and they just slip out. Like clips and bobby pins, barrettes come in a range of styles from simple black or tortoiseshell pattern to colorful sweeps of ribbon or sparkly gemstones.

Combs - Combs are very useful for short hair, even more than for long hair, because the hair does not weigh the comb down, Combs come in many sizes and styles, but they all have an arc contoured to the shape of the head, and teeth that extend down to hold the hair in place. Pick smaller combs for shorter hair.

STYLES:

Bangs back: For a lot of short haired women, a really simple method to give the hairstyle a whole new look is to pin the bangs back. If the bangs are very short, or layered, a little hair gel might help fix them in place. Make sure to gel the rest of the hair as well, so the top of your head doesn't clash with the back and sides. Use barrettes or bobby pins, but stay away form mini clips because they stick out more, which will not look as elegant right on top of the head. If bobby pins are used, do not pick the plain kind, because the whole pin is in plain sight, and looks unpolished. A better pin is one that has one whole side decorated, so that the ridged part of the pin is not visible. Plain barrettes are probably best for a conservative formal look, and decorative barrettes and pins are appropriate for a fancier do. For extremely short hair of an inch or less, pinning the bangs is about the only change that can be made to the basic hair style.

Pin the sides: A variation is to leave the bangs in place, but use the barrettes or pins to bring the side of the hair above the ears up and back in a sweep. For this purpose, mini clips can also be used, because the hair on the side of the head usually has more volume, and the clip will not protrude so obviously. The sides and the bangs can both be pinned, but in this case, make sure the hair is not too flat around the face, and poufy in the back, an easy trap when pinning back short hair. As with the bangs, plain barrettes are best for a conservative look, but stay away from naked bobby pins.

Side combs: One way to sweep teh hair up at the sides is with combs. To do this, begin with the teeth pointing up and the curve pointing away from your head. Sweep the hair up and back from the ears. Then, without moving the teeth, flip teh comb over so that it is positioned comfortably along the side of your head, and last push it down to tighten. Make sure to go up far enough so as not to stab the ears. Combs
