Cafeteria Christianity is a practice carried on by nearly seventy percent of church members today. . The concept that one is allowed to pick and choose what parts of the Scripture to accept and obey is not only an abomination and hateful to God, but is ludicrous as well. The Word of God has been given to the Church in written form and in the person of Jesus Christ. He is the WORD. Christ, at the request of the Believer enters the heart quickening our Spirits and we are on our way to gowing up to eventual perfection. Therefore, to practice your faith in this way is akin to bringing home a complicated and dangerous appliance like a gas barbecue grill and trying to assemble and hook it up without looking at the directions. Since you might miss the direction where it tells you to turn off the gas before hooking it up, you could conceivably blow your entire house apart.
Christianity's precepts are a protection, to be sure, but Christianity is not about rules. It is a relationship with a Holy God, who left his glorious throne in order to pay the penalty for our sins for the sole purpose of establishing a family relationship with us. If you are from a dysfunctional family, or have had much pain and sorrow in the world, or have hit bottom in your sins, you can be healed by this relationship. Why, then, when the light is guiding you out of the tunnel would you extinguish that light by not doing what He says?!
I think the problem comes from a general misunderstanding of what God is doing by the Scripture. Most see God as a guy with a hammer waiting to ding you for your sins. Nothing is more unbiblical than that statement. It is a lie of Satan designed to keep you trapped in sin forever.

2 Tim 3:15-17 (KJV
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good work.
Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is it able to make one wise unto salvation. Which part? All of it! If you leave something out you will be unequipped as the verse imply. Those who pick and choose what to
